Ward Manager (Female PICU)
The Priory Hospital Middleton St George is located close to Darlington, County Durham and provides individualised treatment and care for people with mental health needs of adults who present with complex and challenging behaviours, in a safe and supportive environment. Our comprehensive integrated services offer complete care pathways allowing service users to transfer effortlessly between the most appropriate care, meeting individual needs enabling recovery and re-engagement within the community and maximising life opportunities.
Our multi-disciplinary teams provide care for up to 73 male and female service users, working collaboratively with their commissioners, across our 5 wards and our nearby community house. We deliver acute and recovery and rehabilitation environment which includes a specialist female Personality Disorder service. Our focus is on the delivery of excellent care, empowering service users to progress towards the least restrictive setting and towards independence. Our vision is to place our Service Users at the heart of our service provision, working closely with them and their carers to support their recovery and rehabilitation.
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantially motivated, experienced and skilled Ward Manager to work for The Priory Hospital Middleton St George reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services.
This new female ward (naming competition happening currently) is a 10 bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), encompassing a multidisciplinary led philosophy. The Unit will provide a service to our current site here at Middleton St George and will also provide a nationwide service accepting referrals from inpatient wards and communities from across the whole country.
There will be a specialised element to treatment within this ward in that there will be a DBT informed approach to providing PICU services to females who are experiencing problems related to difficulties in regulating their emotions and tolerating distress.
Our new PICU will provide expert, supportive, short term, individualised care for those who are in an acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder, resulting in increased risks that require the person to be treated in a controlled environment for a brief period of time. The care and treatment will be provided, in line with national Mental Health Policy Guidance and also the National Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (NAPICU) Standards, by a multidisciplinary team, which will also have an advisory role to our other wards here at site.
The successful candidate must possess excellent clinical, team and communication skills together with vision and enthusiasm to develop the hospital's service model. The successful candidate should be RMN qualified and have a minimum of 2 years' experience within a related management role. You need to be able to demonstrate the quality and management of nursing care, patient care and the clinical environment with 24 hours responsibility for staffing. The successful applicant will be a forward-thinking manager, who will lead staff by example.
The successful candidate will provide Clinical Leadership for the nursing team and build relationships with Commissioners whilst ensuring the CQC regulations, outcomes and judgement framework are adhered to at all times.The individual will be expected to support the staff in promoting a skills based approach to the management of their patient's emotions rather than relying on a traditional containment approach to their aggression.
