Set in the leafy suburb of Edgbaston, close to Birmingham City centre, Priory Hospital Woodbourne is conveniently located for access to the West Midlands motorway network and with very good local public transport links. 

The hospital provides a diverse range of inpatient services, including acute and psychiatric intensive care for adults aged 18-25 years, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, specialist Eating Disorder (including day care) and private acute and addictions treatment programmes.  With 78 beds across 7 wards, our multi-disciplinary teams deliver personalised treatment programmes to our patients and have established an excellent reputation for providing the highest standards of care. 

Reporting to the Hospital Director, the Director of Clinical Services (DoCS) forms part of the hospital Senior Management Team and is wholly responsible for the clinical services operation within the hospital. The post holder will ensure the highest level of patient care is provided to all patients.   


The DoCS plays a significant role in developing and delivering the hospital’s strategic plan, and provides strong operational and clinical leadership to our diverse team. 


With a clear focus on the delivery of the highest levels of clinical and therapeutic care, together with ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and legislation, the post holder makes a significant contribution to the achievement of our quality standards and delivering against key performance indicators.


The DoCS is responsible for engaging, retaining and developing our passionate nursing team through Priory’s career pathways and provides direct line management and supervision to the hospital’s ward managers, the MHA and Quality & Compliance team and the Workforce coordinator.


The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing clinical teams and of budget and resource management.  He/She must also have a track record of working collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver clinical excellence, through providing high quality care and continuous improvement.


He/she will possess excellent interpersonal and leaderships skills and will be experienced in leading and engaging diverse teams.
